The Cooil Family
Dave & Rob Cooil are fifth generation farmers. Pictured is Dave Cooil with his wife Kim and kids, Rupert and Ivy. Rob is a bit camera shy!
Their family farm is Ballacreggan in Port St Mary where Rob and his family live whilst Dave and his family have taken on Ballagawne in Ballabeg. Between them, they manage both farms and have recently included Ballapheric Farm into their portfolio. Ballagawne is where the milking is done and the other two farms are for calf rearing. All three farms are used for grass management which includes paddock grazing from around early Feb to late Nov, weather dependant of course.
The Cooil brothers have only started producing milk for the Isle of Man Creamery in the last two years but this isn’t their first rodeo in a dairy parlour. Up until the late 70s, their father Robert produced milk at Ballacreggan farm which was then delivered locally around Port St Mary. Attached is a picture of the old milk cart that their grandfather used!
Since going into dairy farming, the brothers now farm around 500 acres, 200 dairy cows and rear beef cattle. Although we can’t forget Rupert and Ivys 3 chickens called Phoenix, Princess Fluffy and Chucky Choodle
